VG4A members were inspired by the passion and commitment of the speakers at the BC Grandmothers Reflection and Renewal Conference.  Stephen Lewis described how proud he is to watch his daughter Ilana Landsberg-Lewis assume the mantle of Campaign leader.   Ida Nambeya brought stories of the work African grandmothers do in the projects she visits.  Mariam Mulindwa spoke of defending the rights of grandmothers, helping them stand up against injustice.

Members of the Education Working Group went to the Tapestry Teachers' Conference in Victoria last month to demonstrate how to make paper beads.  We spoke about the inspiring work of African grandmothers as they raise orphaned and vulnerable children, and how some generate income through innovate methods such as necklace making.  Several teachers invited us into their classes to show students how to make beads, and talk to them about African grandmothers and the children in their care.
